Basic icons
Developed in a functional style, basic icons are primarily used in navigation, online publications, e-newsletters or applications. Basic icons represent common objects or actions such as search or print and are familiar and instantly recognizable.

Conceptual icons
Conceptual icons have been developed to communicate a concept, unique functions or specific features. Given their conceptual or specific character, they will require the addition of text labels unless they are being used purely as a design element.

The grid system
Both basic and conceptual icons are based on the grid system shown here. The system brings uniformity across all shapes and sizes.
Categories of icons
The following categories of icons have been created for ease of reference. New categories of icons will be added as and when they are developed. They may be accessed from the repository hosted on SharePoint.

Incorrect use of icons
Icons must not be tampered with in any way. Always use the original forms in the given colors and proportions. Any use of the icons must be in accordance with the guidelines detailed in this manual.
The icons cannot have a drop shadow
Icons cannot be in any color other than the defined color(s)
There cannot be any style other than what is defined
The icons cannot be stretched
There cannot be any style other than what is defined
The icons cannot have any extra elements or details added to them
